Layers. That’s how we have to dress in NC in the winter and spring. It can be 40 degrees in the morning and 70 degrees in the afternoon. Snow and ice one week and blooming trees and sunshine the next week. Peeling off a sweater as the day gets warmer is a pretty easy task, but what does a homeowner do with open air spaces as a cold day turns warm or ice from the week before melts into flip-flop weather? Retracting Solutions has your answer and we thought sharing this gorgeous second-story porch belonging to one of our recent customers would provide the perfect example.
The porch on this home is spacious with comfortable furniture, high-quality flooring, and a fireplace. Despite the fireplace, the homeowners weren’t always able to enjoy the porch on cold days in the fall and winter or the chilly mornings of early spring. It didn’t make sense to permanently enclose the porch and lose out on the many warm days the south offers throughout the year. To address this problem we used recessed motorized mesh screens from Phantom Screens. As you can see from the exterior picture of this project, the recessed screens are discreetly mounted in grooves at the top. With the touch of a button, the mesh screens descend from top and settle neatly behind the porch railing, enclosing the porch and offering an additional, fully functional room to the home even on chilly days. Turn on the fireplace and the porch is as cozy as the living room. When the days get warmer, the screens disappear and warm breezes are flowing freely again.
It’s as easy as peeling off a sweater and changing into flip-flops. Retractable screens are a homeowner’s version of wearing layers in this ever-changing NC weather! Ready to transform your open-airs space? Contact us today to get started.
